tomorrow's vision

Over the coming years we will be establishing a number of workshops to expand the range of Trevarno handmade products – we already have the herbal and soap and copper workshops, but more will be added at Home Farm. Within the Upper Walled garden we will be creating 4 planted areas, a Henry Doubleday heritage Seed Library garden, a herb garden, a Victorian cut flower garden and a decorative vegetable garden. Because we have a problem with rabbits and peacocks a netting scheme will be required. However, rather than use conventional cages we have decided to divide the 4 beds with a cross shaped pergola which will allow visitors to walk between the beds and will also provide a structure to support netting which we hope will look more attractive.

A discreet network of floodlights have been installed around the gardens and grounds as the first phase of a spectacular “son et lumieres” project. When complete, visitors will be able to experience transformations after dark which will provide several themed areas on a scale that will be unrivalled in this country.

In Autumn 2003, we opened the Vintage Soap Collection in what used to be the old coach house. Many of the items are a little bit of fun and we hope will provide a nostalgic look back into childhood memories. Following this at Christmas 2003 we opened our Tea Room to provide visitors with warmth and comfort in the winter time by means of an open log fire. This room will also be used for other functions and meetings through the coming months.

Our shop opened Easter 2005, and this will be followed by a small art gallery, in our entrance hall, with paintings by local artists working within the Trevarno ethos.

We anticipate that the restoration and regeneration projects will continue for many years, but these will include:

  • Restoration and replanting of the top Walled Garden
  • Restoration and replanting of woodland areas between bluebell valley and the Walled Garden.
  • The restoration of Trevarno water mill and the creation of a water mill museum.
  • The creation of a wild flower garden – likely to be in the mill meadow.
  • Creation of an Holistic garden in the lower Walled Garden, focusing on medicinal herbs.
  • Rebuilding of the glasshouse in the lower walled garden.
  • The creation of new gardens with specific themes including: The Plant Hunters, Pioneering Nursery Men, South African Species, Australian Species, South American Species.
  • The development of a Handmade Paper Workshop.
  • The development of a Tin Smelting and tin/pewter jewellery workshop
